Nortek designs, develops and produces acoustic underwater sensors that are used to measure motion in our marine environment. Our ocean technology is used in many applications, from understanding climate change impacts to providing navigation assistance for underwater vehicles.
Precise navigation in challenging subsea conditions
Nortek’s Doppler Velocity Logs (DVLs) are aids to navigation for subsea vehicles. These sensors use acoustics to determine subsea vehicles’ speed over ground by using a technique called bottom tracking. This information, combined with directional information from inertial sensors, enables vehicle navigation and positioning.
Nortek DVLs are rigorously tested in demanding environments and offer reliable bottom track as closeto 0.1 m from the seabed or at ranges up to 375 m. These survey-grade DVLs are equipped for integration with leading INS (Inertial Navigation Systems) and have been tried and proven by vehicle manufacturers worldwide.
