Info & Guidelines
We are happy to invite you to our workshop AQ²UASIM: Advancing Quantitative and QUAlitative SIMulators for Marine Applications, to be held at ICRA 2025.
We kindly ask you to submit demos on “Pushing the limit of underwater simulation''.
While there exists a spectrum of different simulations in the maritime domain, we, as maritime researchers, are often forced to start developing new features or entirely new simulation platforms to solve specific problems for which we could not find solutions anywhere else.
Do you have an interesting problem that you have simulated? Want to showcase it for feedback from other maritime researchers?
The idea behind this call is to give a platform to those interesting examples of simulations pushing the state of the art with novel solutions. The demos will be presented alongside the workshop session and utilized to further the discussion at the workshop. With the authors' permission, we will host the demos on the website.
Important Dates
The submission for Demos has the following deadlines:
Submission deadline is 1st of April, 2025.
Notifications will be sent on 15th of April, 2025.
Potential Topics
Practical solutions for ocean exploration, aquaculture, or environmental projects
Advancements in maritime dynamics modeling (e.g., environmental effects, marine life, algae, foam, traffic, vehicles)
Underwater manipulation and intervention
Acoustic and visual simulation for sensors such as sonars, cameras, SLAM etc.
Artificial intelligence or machine learning to reduce the sim-to-real gap
Novel simulation techniques for underwater robotics (e.g., multibody dynamics, fluid-structure interactions)
Open-source datasets, tools, and frameworks for marine robotics
Marine operations management through simulation
Other maritime-related simulation content we might not have thought of
Submission Requirements:
Each demo submission must include the following:
Demo Summary: A concise, one-page description of the demo, including its purpose, key features, and any relevant references.
Demo Video: A video showcasing your demo in action. This video should clearly demonstrate the functionality and key aspects of your work.
Upon Acceptance:
If your demo is accepted, you will then be required to provide the following:
Poster: A poster designed to attract attendees and clearly explain the demo's key aspects. The poster should be self-explanatory, allowing viewers to understand the demo's purpose and functionality even without a presenter present. Presenters are responsible for printing their posters.
Software/Code (If Applicable): If your demo involves software or code that can be shared, you will need to provide a link to a repository (e.g., GitHub) or other distribution platform. Include clear instructions for setup and usage. This will allow attendees to interact with your work beyond the workshop.
Website Image: A logo or other image for display on the workshop website. (A graphical abstract is welcome but not required).
Selection:
Demo submissions will be evaluated based on their relevance to the workshop themes, technical merit, clarity of presentation (both in the summary and video), and potential for audience engagement.
Disclaimer:
Please note that at the moment, we cannot guarantee that all special requirements or preferences will be met. Any specific needs will be addressed on a best-effort basis and are subject to final confirmation from ICRA regarding space and technical conditions.
