Book vending machines are what they sound like: a vending machine, but instead of dispensing snacks, drinks, or food, it dispenses books! The book vending machine vends books using a golden token. One way to use the book vending machine is to reward students for good behavior, good grades, and good attendance. We believe that the combination of vending books and your own personalized reward system could bridge the gap between literacy and engagement!
A book vending machine costs approximately $6600.00 through February,2022. Please reach out to our Patrice Laird Walker (plwalker@apsk12.org) with any questions.

You will receive communication from Jake via Global Vending to approve images and schedule delivery.
Identify a space in the school for your vending machine. It is recommended that you select an area that has a high and diverse volume of traffic. This is an opportunity for parents, students, community members, and partners to help our students build their home libraries.
Once the delivery date has been confirmed, please secure at least 2 STRONG bodies to move the vending machine inside the school. The delivery service is door-to-door and doesn't include set-up inside the building. You will also need a pallet jack to move the machine.

The ideal configuration would include swapping the standard trays for 2 medium-sized picture book trays and 1 large picture book tray.
Book vending machines should not supplant book circulation in the library but should offer students the opportunity to begin or maintain a home library.
Continuous inventory development should be the responsibility of the media specialist. Book donations should be carefully vetted prior to adding books to the book vending machine inventory. All donations are not appropriate for school distribution and should be approved by a certified media specialist. If you do not have a media specialist, please contact Media Services to support this work.
