We offer the following options for Medical Students who wish to rotate through our department in their Clinical Clerk years of Medical School
Students will have the opportunity to establish clinical-pathological correlation by participating in the surgical and autopsy pathology sections of the department.
The emphasis will be on the cellular “Basis of Pathology”. The student will be expected and encouraged to participate actively in the preparation and review of surgical pathology and autopsy cases under the supervision of a pathologist, with the aim of obtaining a better understanding of pathological basis of disease to allow a rational approach to diagnosis in clinical practice.
The student will also have the opportunity to attend and participate in teaching rounds in progress at that time in the Department of Pathology.
TYPE OF ELECTIVE: Clerkship
DURATION: 2 -4 weeks
NUMBER OF STUDENTS ACCEPTED: Maximum of 2 students during any one block. (Note: No electives will be scheduled at the Foothills Medical Centre during the first 4 weeks of July)
PREREQUISITES: Familiarity with the use of a microscope and knowledge of the basic mechanisms of disease.
