Who: Participants will break up into teams of 2 to lead and moderate at least one reflection during the program.
We will sign up for these before or at the beginning of the trip.
When: Generally these will be in the evening but the time of the reflection gathering may vary depending on our schedules. The trip coordinators will work out reflection times depending on the day's activities.
What: The Reflection leaders/moderators will have approximately 15-30 minutes to lead a reflection that may include doing an activity, telling a story, singing a song, sharing poetry, taking a walk or anything else they think would help us reflect on the theme for the day. You will be provided with Reflection Journals that you may use as a guide but you are free to use your own resources. Remember that you are simply the moderators and the goal is to allow everyone to participate. No single person within the group should dominate the activity. If helpful, you can use a talking stick or a timer. Please encourage people not to interrupt the person sharing or express disagreement in a personal way. You can also break the group into smaller groups or even groups of 2. You are also responsible for the journal entry for the day. (See below).
Trip Journal: The Reflection leaders will be responsible for recording their assigned day in our trip journal.
Content: Try to include some facts and substance of things we may have learned as well regarding the culture, environment, and issues. You can access notes you may have taken during the day, our resources in the binder, and things you look up, even before the trip. You can share funny moments, reflections shared by team members, stories you heard that day, or whatever you feel will best represent our day.
Format: Although your personal reflection can be a part of this, it is designed to be a group journal. It is best to refer to yourself in the third person, as one of the group.
Length: There is no limit on this. It is simply for our benefit. It can be anywhere from one typed page to 5 or more.
Timing: If possible, we will do this on line at the site. You can talk to other work groups and team members for their thoughts during the course of the day and evening. Try to do this at the end of your day or the day after in some amount. You can add to it later in the trip or after but memories fade as time goes on.
