Devarieous Sly-Clay

Varsity Head Coach 

DeVarieous Sly-Clay (Coach D) grew up in north/northeast Portland where he attended Benson Polytechnic High School and Grant High School. During his time as a student he was a two sport athlete competing in football and tennis. Coach D started his coaching career in 2012 as an assistant football coach at Crescent Valley High School in Corvallis, OR. Coach D has coached high school football the past 12 years. He spent three of those years as a head coach, and six as a varsity offensive coordinator


In 2013 Coach D became a volunteer freshman assistant coach/video scout for the boys basketball program at Sherwood High School. In 2017 Coach D would join the boys basketball staff at Clackamas as a program assistant under Cameron Mitchell. In 2018 he would make the transition to the girls side under Korey Landolt and hasn't looked back since. He would spend the next two years there before moving over to West Linn to assist their girls program under Brook Cates from 2020-2023. 


Coach D has also spent 6 years coaching youth and club basketball. His stops include CYB, West Linn Select, HOLLA under Erik Knox the head girls coach at Benson, as well as UNDRGROUND based out of Clackamas. Coach D currently works as a study hall teacher in the North Clackamas School District. In his free time he enjoys hanging with friends and family, grilling, and enjoying life. He is excited to be a part of the Sunset Apollo family, and looks forward to helping build something special here for years to come.

Varsity Assistant


Nicole has called the Beaverton/Portland area her home for the past two decades. She graduated from Sunset High School in 2016, where she actively participated in soccer and basketball. Following her high school years, she briefly played basketball at Portland Community College before making a pivotal decision to transition into coaching.


In 2017, she returned to Sunset High School to join Sarah Moyer as an assistant coach for the JV2 team. Over the years, her coaching prowess was evident as she progressively moved up the ranks, eventually becoming an assistant coach for both the JV and Varsity teams. Nicole's journey culminated in her appointment as the head coach of the JV2 basketball team, and most recently, she has taken on the role of head coach for the JV team. Beyond high school coaching, Nicole has also contributed her coaching expertise to the Sunset Youth program and Flash Basketball, where she worked with 7th and 8th graders, nurturing young talent.


In addition to her coaching endeavors, Nicole is pursuing a bachelor's degree in business at Portland State University, demonstrating her commitment to personal growth and development. Nicole eagerly anticipates the upcoming season and is poised to lead her team to success with her wealth of experience, positivity, and dedication to the game.
