This HEADER is a 1600x600 pixel image that I designed. I uploaded it to Sites and selected "Banner" (NOT "Large Banner") in the header size options.For a LARGE header, I'd use a 1600x800 pixel image, and be sure to select "LARGE BANNER" in the header size options.For a COVER header, use a 1600x1000 pixel image and select "COVER" as your header size.
If you're able to drag a blue dot to resize the header, then you accidentally inserted it as an "image" and not a header. To fix this issue, hover over the top center of the navigation bar, until you see "+Add header." Then, add your image using this option, and select your header size. Go to "preview mode" to view the scrolling effect.

I made this site just for YOU, teacher friends, because couldn't we all use a little inspiration? It should be noted: the site is not "fancy." In fact, everything is scaled down to the basics so that's it's a little less intimidating, but the sky's the limit in terms of design! I've included lots of random examples for you, so you can see that everything can be personalized and "cute-ified" if you design images in PowerPoint or Slides and then import. So, click around and see if you can find some inspiration to use Google Sites within your own class. I've tried to include instructions throughout the site. Generally, ideas are in BLACK boxes and instructions are in GRAY boxes.

This is a clickable button. ππΌ Add it by going to the "Insert" menu on the right and scrolling down to "button." Give your button a "name" (text) and then add a link, which will open in a new window. You can link to an outside website, or to another page within THIS website. Go ahead, give it a try!
You can change the color of the button by going to "Themes" and choosing different colors. You can also select if you'd like the button to be filled, outlined, or just transparent.

This box has a gray background because I pressed the "emphasis" button just to the LEFT of this text box (when you're in EDIT mode). Press the paint palette icon π¨ and select a light or dark background...or keep everything crisp and white.
To add ANYTHING (text, images, or items from your Drive...just go to the "INSERT" menu to the right (in edit mode), or DOUBLE CLICK and a wheel will appear. The wheel looks like this:

I get asked this question all the time. The short answer is NO. π Google is a WEB-based service which uses WEB-based fonts. Font files (ttf) need to be downloaded and installed. However, there is a work-around for this.

You can design with your cute fonts using PowerPoint or Adobe or Pages. Then, save your design as an image (jpeg or png) and when you go to Google Slides, import that saved image as the "background" of your slide.

It's an extra step that's not too complicated, but it increases the capacity for beautiful design within Google.
