Title of Devotion: The Ones Whom the World Writes Off Are the Ones God Chooses, Trust him he has a plan for all of your pain.
Devotion
In our world, success is often measured by wealth, power, and status. Those who don't fit into these categories are frequently overlooked or dismissed. However, God's perspective is vastly different. He sees value where the world sees none. He chooses the humble, the broken, and the overlooked to fulfill His divine purposes.
Consider the story of David, a young shepherd boy who was overlooked by his own family when Samuel came to anoint the next king of Israel. Yet, God chose David, not because of his outward appearance or status, but because of his heart (1 Samuel 16:7). Similarly, Jesus chose fishermen, tax collectors, and sinners to be His disciples, transforming them into the foundation of His church.
Matthew 9:10-13 (NIV) "While Jesus was having dinner at Matthew’s house, many tax collectors and sinners came and ate with him and his disciples. When the Pharisees saw this, they asked his disciples, 'Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?' On hearing this, Jesus said, 'It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. But go and learn what this means: "I desire mercy, not sacrifice." For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.'
In this passage, we see Jesus breaking societal norms by dining with tax collectors and sinners. The Pharisees, who prided themselves on their righteousness, were quick to judge Jesus for associating with those they deemed unworthy. However, Jesus' response highlights His mission to reach out to those who are spiritually sick and in need of healing.
His statement, "It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick," shows us that His ministry is focused on those who recognize their need for Him. He emphasizes mercy over sacrifice, showing that God's heart is for compassion and grace rather than mere religious rituals.
Let's reflect on the powerful promise found in Jeremiah 29:11. This verse reminds us that God has a plan for each of us, a plan that is filled with hope and a future. No matter what challenges we face, including the struggle with addiction, we can trust that God is working for our good.
Addiction can make us feel lost and hopeless, but God's word assures us that He has not forgotten us. He sees our pain and our struggles, and He promises to guide us through them. Trusting in God's plan means believing that He has a purpose for our lives, even when we can't see it.
Take a moment to pray and ask God to reveal His plan for you. Surrender your fears and doubts to Him, and allow His peace to fill your heart. Remember, you are not alone in this journey. God is with you, and He will never leave you nor forsake you.
The Lord's Promises
1 Corinthians 1:27-29 (NIV) "But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast before him."
Isaiah 41:10: “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
Psalms 34:18“The Lord is near to the brokenhearted, and He saves the crushed in spirit.”
Deuteronomy 31:6: “Be strong and courageous; do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you; He will not leave you nor forsake you.”
Psalms 147:3: “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.
Joshua 1:5: “No one will be able to stand against you as long as you live. For I will be with you, as I was with Moses; I will not fail you or abandon you.”
