Subcommittees
Led by Joy as the adult lead, the Youth Advocacy & Support committee is dedicated to providing a nurturing and empowering environment for all participants of the API Youth Forum. Supported by Mehnaz, Aishwarya, Isha, Harmann, and Simran, the committee focuses on advocating for the needs and concerns of young attendees. They strive to create a safe space for dialogue, offering emotional support and guidance where needed. Through their efforts, the Youth Advocacy & Support committee plays a vital role in fostering inclusivity, empowerment, and wellbeing throughout the API Youth Forum.
Joy Lin (she/they), is the Youth Engagement Specialist at the Center for the Pacific Asian Family, and the other project co-lead for API Youth Forum. True to her Taiwanese heritage, Joy is a lover of lu rou fan (braised pork over rice) and hot pot. They love making both dishes in large batches to be shared with friends over rice and noodles.
The Communications & Outreach subcommittee, led by Willie as the adult lead and Johnny as the co-lead, along with Rachel, Diyahna, Adrian, Somya, Sahana, Charvi, Tenica, and Avik, focuses on disseminating key messages and attracting participants to the program. They collaborate with the Marketing and Design team to develop effective outreach materials, ensuring consistency in messaging and branding. Their responsibilities include ongoing recruitment of program guests and event attendees, as well as finalizing the registration form based on feedback from the broader committee.
Willie Dawson (he/him) works as a Community Engagement Coordinator at the Center for the Pacific Asian Family. As one of the project co-leads for The API Youth Forum on the Communications and Outreach Committee, he actively contributes to its initiatives. Rooted in African American culture, Willie has a broad appreciation for various cuisines including Vietnamese, Thai, Japanese, and Chinese. However, he particularly delights in indulging in a Boba Smoothie with Lychee Jelly, and welcomes recommendations for where to find the best ones.
Johnny Wong (he/him), a sophomore college student at Pasadena City College. A veteran youth organizer yet also one of the youth co-leads in Communication & Outreach Team for API Youth Forum. With multilingual heritage spanning Chinese, Malaysian, Cantonese, and Singaporean cultures. My lifetime mission is to represent Malaysia and bring out the best in me to share how good Malaysian culture will be in the US starting little by little. My favorite API food will be mi goreng rendang, roti planta and nasi goreng.
As the program subcommittee for the API Youth Forum Planning Program, their primary tasks included organizing diverse content such as workshops, performances, keynote speakers, and selecting MCs. They served as the main points of contact for speakers and performers, facilitating smooth communication and providing event orientation to ensure a cohesive experience for all participants.
Nat Wadman, MSW, Community Program Director at CPAF, brings extensive international development experience, including roles at VSO International where she led youth engagement strategies in Asia Pacific and Africa. With expertise in health, education, and livelihood programs, Nat prioritizes community-centered approaches.
The Event Logistics committee plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth execution of the API Youth Forum. Led by Anna and Sophie, this committee oversees various essential tasks. Responsibilities include managing program/stage logistics, facilitating registration/check-in processes, providing emotional and language support, coordinating photography and videography, ensuring event management and safety, and handling pre-event preparation and cleanup. They also facilitate interaction with external agencies, enhancing the event's scope and impact. Overall, the Event Logistics committee works tirelessly to create a seamless and enjoyable experience for all API Youth Forum attendees.
Sophie Lin (she/they), a student at UCLA, is the event logistics youth co-lead for the 2024 API Youth Forum planning committee. Growing up as a Chinese immigrant, her favorite API food has always been the Cantonese-style luo song tang since the soup brings them comfort and reminds them of home.
Anna (she/her) serves as the Event Logistics Adult Co-Lead on the API YF Planning Committee and works as the Prevention Program Manager at the Center for the Pacific Asian Family. Her favorite API food is Taiwanese spicy beef noodle soup.
The Marketing and Design team is responsible for creating visually appealing and engaging content to promote events, products, or services. This includes designing logos, branding materials, and promotional collateral such as posters, flyers, and social media graphics. They also manage web design, ensuring that the organization or event's website is user-friendly and aesthetically pleasing. The team designs merchandise and event visuals, collaborating closely with the Communication and Outreach team to ensure consistent messaging and effective dissemination of promotional materials.
Adult Co-Lead and member of the marketing and design subcommittee. Josiah works for CPAF as the volunteer and intern coordinator, where he ensures the smooth functioning of the organization's volunteers and interns. Outside work, you'll often find Josiah on the basketball court, channeling his competitive spirit and staying active.
CJ Calica (she/her) serves as the Center Specialist for the APISRC (Asian Pacific Islander Student Resource Center) at Cal State LA. From the San Gabriel Valley, she also holds the position of Marketing and Design Youth Co-lead. Her favorite API dessert, Chinese Fried Dough.
API YF Co-Leads
Tiffany Lim (they/them), a Community Youth Organizer at the Center for the Pacific Asian Family, serves as one of the project co-leads for API Youth Forum. With a heritage spanning Chinese, Vietnamese, and Malaysian cultures, they find it challenging to select a favorite API food, though they lean towards banh xeo or chee cheong fun.
