Kristen has a son in fourth grade at Apex Elementary and a 4 year old daughter. She worked in Finance for 18 years, and is currently the Controller at William Peace University. She was looking for ways to be more involved at Apex Elementary and this seemed like a natural way for her to volunteer due to her professional background.

Rachel Frische-Khan is a proud mom of three sons at Apex Elementary School- twins Eli and Gabe in 5th grade and Julian in 2nd grade. Her family loves being part of the AES community! Rachel is a practicing psychiatrist who specializes in treating depression, anxiety, and attentional challenges. She has advanced training in reproductive mental health, including perinatal, perimenstrual, and perimenopausal conditions. In addition to her clinical work, she serves as an Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor at UNC Chapel Hill, where she contributes to research and helps train future physicians. She also holds a background in business and public health.
As the 2025–2026 Secretary of the Apex PTA, Rachel is excited to bring her organizational skills, attention to detail, and deep commitment to service to the role. She is especially passionate about making PTA events and communications more inclusive and accessible- particularly for working parents with limited time to participate. Rachel looks forward to fostering a welcoming, informed, and engaged school community where every caregiver feels valued and heard.

Mercedes is a proud mom to Penny (4th grade) and Aiden (7th grade). Their family also includesBrownie, the sweet dog who thinks she’s in charge! Mercedes works in research at UNC and isan avid Tar Heel fan. She has loved volunteering as a Room Mom and serving on schoolcommittees, and she’s excited for another great year filled with fun, learning, and community.
