The World of Grayscale Lake

A view of Grayscale Lake with its boats and A Passage to the Stars C-ticket, backdropped by the TCL Chinese Theater (you can even notice a small transition from grayscale to color!)

As part of the new changes coming to Disney's Hollywood Studios in 2025, Echo Lake has been rethemed to Grayscale Lake, inspired by the early 20th century and the silent movie era.

The entire land - from the rides to the buildings to the paths - is in black and white, just like the movies from that era. Stepping away from the muddy and confused theming of Echo Lake allows Greyscale Lake to transform into a 1920's American seaport, an influential port leading the front lines of the film industry. Boats of many sizes drift around the "lake", with small wooden paths weaving smartly around the land. The port's setting of being on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean allows it to be America's "landline" to Europe, which is why this is also America's original Hollywood. This is the first "chapter" of sorts that slowly moves towards the rest of the park, connecting Hollywood Studios in a way that allows it to center itself like Epcot- half "Edutainment" history, half "Exploration" of the movies. This is the era before sound, color, and most importantly... Hollywood.

The Mickey Shorts Theater, For the First Time in Forever, and the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular were all removed to make way for new experiences. The first two attractions were replaced by A Passage to the Stars, a dark ride themed around the history and the evolution of early films. The space containing the latter attraction is now reserved for expansion space- Rumors from Disney insiders suggest that this space could serve as the home for a much-needed E-ticket Méliès-themed headliner, a special stage show (Phantom of the Opera?!), Ballroom teacup spinner, or all of them!

The image (above) showing the greyscale façade of our main attraction, with the color pattern 'echoing' into the lake adjacent to its entrance. The image (below) illustrates the view from above, with our C-Ticket attraction 'A Passage to the Stars' cemented to coincide with the 50s Prime Time Cafe as well as the new walking paths, small theater exhibit, and possible future expansion space.

ECHO LAKE BOATS

As a small reference to the new land's original Armchair Imagineers, all nine boats drifting in the lake represent each and every one of them, similar to what happened in Blizzard Beach- but BETTER! And as per usual, you can find a few dead birds in the lake- whatever happened to them, nobody knows.

Prominent boats:

The Disney Warrior: it has a passing resemblance to a battleship which showcases the warrior part of the name.

Sailing in Space: the ship itself has a somewhat sleek design for the time period to show case the space mountain aesthetic.

Tegan Pilots a Boat with Chickens: there are several chickens around the ship and a statue of a chicken driving a ship is on the bow (in a scene of controversy, this boat in particular has a small quick service stand within it that sells fried chicken).

The Guinea Pig: Literally a cardboard box.

Lord Titanic: The titanic never sunk, what made you think that? 😉
