Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) is an autonomous body established under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India. The FSSAI has been established under the Food Safety and Standards Act 2006, which is a consolidating statute related to food safety and regulation in India. FSSAI is responsible for protecting and promoting public health through the regulation and supervision of food safety.

Types of FSSAI License
Businesses engaged in food activities are required to apply for food license of different types based on turnover, scale of business and the type of activity. Such businesses must apply for either of the licenses (central or state) or simple registration. The criteria specified in rules are as follow
FSSAI BASIC REGISTRATION : This is required for small business or startups which have annual turnover below Rs.12 lakhs. Basic registration can be upgraded to state license as your sales graph increases.
FSSAI STATE LICENSE : This license is applicable to mid-sized companies which have annual turnover between Rs.12-20 crores.
FSSAI CENTRAL LICENSE : This license is applicable typically on large business with annual turnover above Rs.20 crores. It is also required in cases where you need to supply at the government offices or import / export food products.
DRUG License (CDSCO)
Licensing is mandatory to do business in Drugs & Cosmetics in India. The provisions for this have been made in Drugs & Cosmetics Act, 1940 which is applicable to the whole of India. It is an Act to consolidate all the laws relating to drugs & cosmetics, which established the Drugs Control Department. In 1964, the Act was amended to include Ayurvedic & Unani drugs. In case a business is operating in more than two states, it has to obtain a drug license in every state in which business is being carried on. Drug license is location-specific. If drugs are sold or stocked for sale at more than one place, the application shall be made, and license shall be issued, in respect of each such place except migrant vendors
