Math 4 Change
The objective of this organization is to facilitate academic research in projects that support humanitarian efforts by serving as a hub connecting academics with NGOs in need of analytical or AI expertise.
Ongoing or finalized research projects:
Improving healthcare outcomes in Mozambique: one project involves developing interpretable rules for predicting the inefficacy of tuberculosis first-line treatment in Mozambique, providing doctors with useful decision-support tools to combat this disease. Still in Mozambique, I am applying AI to unravel the determinants of low birth weight in newborns in Quelimane, potentially providing critical insights for medical interventions
Enhancing agricultural supply chain in Africa: M4C has also connected researchers and students from MIT with CIMMYT, a nonprofit advancing agricultural science and improving production. The output was the project "Building resilient agrifood systems for smallholder farmers in Africa: Kenya", which investigated the supply chain challenges of smallholder grain farmers in Kenya, revealing the critical need for better credit access and the benefits of technology adoption in enhancing their market presence and product quality.
Assessing and promoting fairness in courts: M4C is analyzing the fairness of Israeli judicial proceedings concerning Arab cases. Since our results suggest significant disparities based on the petitioner’s ethnicity, we aim to provide equitable legal insights to support NGOs aiding Palestinian communities.
