Depression is the opposite end of the spectrum of anxiety. When anxiety is to have too much energy to focus on the future, depression is not having enough energy to focus on even the present moment, let alone past of future - the attitude of why bother to even take another step or another breath.
As explained in the Anxiety Treatments section of this blog, no two anxiety or depression conditions are the same - to think you will be fine with just talking therapy, or cognitive behaviour therapy is nonsensical. You must have a proper diagnosis and rule out at least the fact that hormones are not affecting as well as nerves or other factors.
This is because a simple movement in blood sugar - up or down - can have a direct impact on your entre health - just because you don't see it right away, does not mean there is no impact.
Depression should be taken as a mental condition as much as a physical condition. Its not as simple as just because someone went through a trauma, it's a mental or emotional state - the hormones are also affected, which in turn affects nerves (or vice versa) - and this affects other areas of organ function, such as nutrition absorption, which then, can affect how the patient's quality of life is, and also cause further disease (missing just 1 vitamin in your daily food, means you are heading towards getting sick).
So if you do want to help someone with depression - take them to a specialist like the ones we talked about in our anxiety treatments page here. Especially if you live in Islamabad - otherwise find someone similar that can support the patient not just emotionally and mentally, but also handle the physical situation happening in their body, be it hormones, or nerves or whatever else that can manifest as a condition due to the depression.
