This is a story, written by Rick Riordan, from the point of view of a 12 year old boy who is trying to find out who he really is. He suffered from ‘dyslexia’ and ‘ADHD’ which means that whenever he will try to read any word, the words will float and form a different language. This was the reason he was not able to get good grades in school. His father left his mother, Sally Jackson when he was very young. So she married Gabe Ugliano. He was an abuse and used to beat Sally when Percy was in boarding school. During the summer breaks, he used to continue the same attitude with Percy. One day his Math teacher transformed into a monster and demanded for something strange,’a lightning bolt’. Mr. Chiron, his ancient Greek’s teacher rescued him in time along with his best friend Grover. He gave Percy a pen and asked to use it only when he is in a very big problem just like this one. One night before ancient Greek’s test, Percy overheard Mr. Chiron and Grover talking about summer solstice. Percy had an urge to know more about their conversation but he was seen eavesdropping by Grover. After some time, Chiron asked Grover to take Percy to ‘Camp Half-blood’ a place which was safe for him. On the way, he was explained that he was a demigod. When they were about to reach there, Grover, Percy and his mother were attacked by few monsters. One of the monster killed his mother. As a revenge, Percy killed a Minotaur using the pen which actually transformed into a sword. When he reached the camp, he made friends but not as many as he made enemies. The reason was that he managed to kill the Minotaur that every trained kid tried to kill but always failed. After the ‘Capture the Flag’ game, he discovered that that he was the son of one of the three major gods, Poseidon, the god of sea. He was also told that he was accused by brother of Poseidon, Zeus, the god of sky to steal his lightning bolt therefore he was given a quest along with Annabeth, daughter of goddess of wit (Athena), and Grover the satyr to return the Zeus’ lightning bolt. They had to return it back by summer solstice. On the way they met Medusa an evil who could make you a statue if you look into her eyes. They managed to escape but got struck in a hotel named Lotus Casino. They soon discovered that they wasted a lot of days at that place. As they were hungry, they went to a hotel where they met god of war (Ares). Obviously, he tempted him. Ares, the god of war promised him to give some information about his mother if he bring him his backpack. As Annabeth insisted, the trio went to bring the bag. They were asked to go in the underworld by Ares. There they met Hades, Lord of death and another brother of Poseidon. There he met his mother. Surprisingly, she was alive. In the underworld, he was accused for not just stealing the lightning bolt, but also Hades’ helm. He soon realized that the backpack that was given by Ares suddenly became heavy which meant that the lightning bolt was kept in it. The trio left his mother back there and went back to Hades and soon the lord of war tempted Percy so much that they both were fighting. After the fight, the god of war cursed Percy. He took the helm and the bolt back from him and went to Zeus to return him his belongings and same he did with Hades. This helped him to get back his mother. He met his father Poseidon for the first time. When he returned home, he found a parcel which was actually a question asked by Mr. D whether or not he would like to go back to the camp only during summers or live there forever. Just like Annabeth he also decided to be a camp half-blood member. When he went to meet one of his friend named Luke, he got to know more about the prophecy and how it was linked to him. After that Luke told him that Ares was working under Kronos, father of Zeus, Hades and Poseidon. So the real enemy was Kronos but the most surprising news was that even Luke was working under the same evil god and actually wanted him to join in the same. As Percy refused, he was almost killed by Luke when camp members found him. Annabeth and Percy therefore decided to take this matter as the quest next time they come, or they will go away on their own.
