Research Assistant Professor

Department of Information Systems

University of Maryland, Baltimore County

I am currently working as a Research Assistant Professor at University of Maryland, Baltimore County  I mentor graduate students in the field of (a) Improved perception at the edge (UGV and UAS); (b) Compression-Aware Federated Learning; (c) Building network layer middleware for network and physics simulators. My research interests include, distributed machine intelligence at the edge, Low-Power AI for IoT, Indoor Localization, Wireless Networking, Mobile and Ubiquitous Computing, Smart Building Management.

Prior to joining UMBC, I worked as a Research Scientist/postdoc with Living Analytics Research Center at Singapore Management University (2018-2023).  I was advised by Prof. Archan Misra. My project includes indoor localization for occupancy sensing in Smart Building and collaborative machine intelligence for resource-constrained IoT devices.

I briefly worked as an Assistant Professor at Shiv Nadar University from 2016-2018. I taught courses like Object Oriented Programming in Java, Data Structures, Mobile Computing, and Wireless Networking. I mentored undergraduate research students Some noteworthy projects include (a) Energy and cost-efficient cooperative strategies for IoT devices, (b) building cooperative intelligent edge devices to reduce latency in a 5G environment.

I obtained my Ph.D. from Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, under Dr. Sateesh K Peddoju. My Ph.D. thesis catered to improving the energy efficiency of mobile devices and providing seamless servicing/reducing latency. With the help of optimization techniques, the proposed algorithm aided offloading decisions on the fly in heterogeneous network.
