New Publication in Nature Communications
Our recent collaborative work, “Observation of Altermagnetic Spin-Splitting in an Intercalated Transition Metal Dichalcogenide,” has been published in Nature Communications (August, 20 2026).
In this study, we report the observation of altermagnetic spin splitting in a layered intercalated transition-metal dichalcogenide, providing new insight into the electronic structure of altermagnetic quantum materials.

Dr. Anup Pradhan Sakhya delivered a contributed talk at the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Advances in Photoemission Techniques Workshop, held from June 2–5, 2026, in Okinawa, Japan.
Our recent paper, “Complex electronic topography and magnetotransport in an in-plane ferromagnetic kagome metal,” by Anup Pradhan Sakhya and collaborators, has been published as a Letter in Physical Review Materials https://journals.aps.org/prmaterials/abstract/10.1103/2q8z-625s. The work was also featured in the Physical Review Materials special collection, “Quantum Phenomena in Kagome Materials.” (May 11, 2026)
On March 26, 2026, Nathan Valadez, a doctoral student at the University of Central Florida (UCF), USA, working under the supervision of Prof. Madhab Neupane, visited our research group at the Research Institute for Synchrotron Radiation Science (HiSOR), Hiroshima University.
During his visit, Nathan toured the HiSOR synchrotron facilities and learned about our experimental capabilities for investigating the electronic structure of quantum materials using synchrotron-based angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) and related spectroscopic techniques. The visit also provided an opportunity to exchange ideas on ongoing research activities and discuss potential scientific interactions in the areas of quantum materials, topological systems, and photoemission spectroscopy.
Dr. Anup Pradhan Sakhya, together with Dr. Suman Nandi and Dr. Mohit Mudgal, attended the 30th Hiroshima International Symposium on Synchrotron Radiation, titled “Materials and Life Science using VUV–SX Synchrotron Radiation: Towards the Future HiSOR-II Project,” held at the Hiroshima University Faculty Club (March 3–4, 2026).
Dr. Anup Pradhan Sakhya, together with Dr. Suman Nandi and Dr. Mohit Mudgal, attended the Hiroshima University J-PEAKS International Symposium 2026 on “New Frontiers through Interdisciplinary Research Integration—Focusing on Synchrotron Radiation Science” (March 2, 2026).
Dr. Mohit Mudgal together with Dr. Satoshi Hashimoto represented Hiroshima University at the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) meeting held from February 12–14, 2026, in Phoenix, Arizona, under the J-PEAKS program of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science. During the visit, he toured the CXFEL facility at Arizona State University with Prof. Petra Fromme and discussed potential collaboration. He also met with Prof. Sidney Hecht to explore further collaborative opportunities between ASU and Hiroshima University.
Dr. Suman Nandi joined our team at the Research Institute for Synchrotron Radiation Science (HiSOR), Hiroshima University, as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow on 1 February 2026.
Dr. Anup Pradhan Sakhya presented a HiSOR × WPI-SKCM² Seminar titled “Mapping the Rich Electronic Landscape of Distorted Kagome Metals” on 29 January 2026.

A New Year’s party was organized by the faculty and students at the Research Institute for Synchrotron Radiation Science (HiSOR), Hiroshima University, on 13 January 2026.
