INTRODUCTION

Anugraha Charitable Trust was founded in 1997 to help in alleviating the sufferings of the needy and to work towards the development of the society by facilitating good health (Arogyasahaya Nidhi), education (Vidyasahaya Nidhi), providing food (Annadanam) and shelter (Homes).

The activities of the Trust started in a small way by organizing career development programmes, medical camps, free distribution of study-kits to students, dress and food items to the needy, mainly supported by Devaki-Krishna Bhat Endowment Scheme. The charitable activities of the Trust took a giant leap in 2011 when late Sri Dayanand V Kamath on the advice of  late C.A  S Prabhakara Prabhu chose the Trust as a nodal agency to implement schemes sponsored through Dr Narmada Dayanand Kamath Endowment Fund.

The Trust now runs four major projects in Kochi city, a Senior Citizens’ Home at Kacheripady, a Home for Aged women  at Karnakodam, a Home for men at Prabhakar Jyothi and a 38 flat Free Housing Complex both at Pandikudi-- all sponsored through Dr Narmada-Dayanand Kamath Endowment Fund. ARV Memorial is a project initiated by the Trust in memory of our forefathers Appu Bhat, Ranga Bhat and Vinayak Pandit. The Trust also runs Annadanam, a meal a day scheme at Prabhakar Jyothi.

The Scholarships provided to the needy students of all sects of Konkani community in Kerala from Xth standard till their graduation is the biggest Scholarship scheme in that sector. Thanks to the benevolence of Dr Narmada-Dayanand Kamath Merit cum Means Endowment, the scheme has been beneficial for thousands of students in the last several years.

The Trust also provides monthly pension scheme and implements Dr Narmada-Dayanand Annual Grant Scheme for the aged.

Our special focus in the development of Konkani language and culture paved the way for building a memorial at Kochi for Konkani trio Ranga Bhat,   Vinayak Pandit, and Appu Bhat the authors of Hortus Indicus Malabaricus, a treatise of medicinal plants compiled during the Dutch era (17th Century).

Our Trust is an initiative by the youths from the Gowda Saraswath Brahmin Community, which took the imagination of many philanthropists who contributed for its growth.  Anugraha stands tall as one of the biggest NGOs working for the uplift of the poor and the needy among Konkani community.

“Manava Seva – Madhava Seva” (Service to Man is Worship to God) is the Motto of the Trust.

Our profound gratitude and obeisance at the Vrindavan of H H Srimad Sudhindra Tirtha Swamiji the 20th Mathadhipati of Sree Kashimath Samsthan, whose blessings and guidance was an inspiration for achieving our greater goals of service and to H H Srimad Samyamindra Tirtha Swamiji the present pontiff for the continued blessings to our activities.
