Helpful research resources
Here are a number of resources that are particularly useful and helpful right now:
Library Information Pages:
- The Library’s Ask-Us-Now page: https://library.ucsd.edu/ask-us/index.html
- Links to an external site.
- (the best place to start if you aren’t sure where to go on the UCSD Library Website to reach the right person or find the right service, try our Ask Us Now page, which has been redesigned in light of the critical need for online information)
Important providers of electronic/digital content are temporarily expanding access:
- Digitalia: http://www.digitaliapublishing.com/ebooks
- (Links to an external site.)
- (a major provider of Spanish language ebooks which is currently providing free loans to their entire collection. UCSD owns a number of these, but if you find something particularly useful, please let me know so I can purchase for the permanent collection if we don’t have it already).
Information about, Best Practices, and Resources to find and request Online Films to use in the classroom:
- Kanopy (Our major (and broadest) resource for online films). The UCSD version (ucsd.kanopy. com – where the link on the Databases A-Z list goes) includes the films that we subscribe to. However, Kanopy has more films – which you can find here: www.kanopy.com
- (Links to an external site.)
- – and I can order any that you need.
- Use WorldCat (worldcat or melvyl) and to use the faceting menu on the left to click on the evideo box put in your terms and click on worldcat (melvyl) under the search box
- Unfortunately, we cannot – generally -- buy streaming rights from Amazon and Netflix, but:
o renting a movie is often not very expensive and a website like this can identify streaming services/prices for various titles: https://www.justwatch.com (Links to an external site.). o some Netflix Original educational documentaries are available for one-time educational screenings. As this link explains: https://help.netflix.com/en/node/57695 (Links to an external site.). You can find out which titles are available for educational screenings, go to the "Only On Netflix" section of media.netflix.com (Links to an external site.). From here, navigate to "All Alphabetical" and look for the grant of permission indicated on such films’ details page.
