The Engineering Construction & Design course introduces the fundamental skills necessary in the construction industry across trades. Students will learn construction safety, hand and power tools, construction math, construction drawings, materials-handling, job communication, and skills to gain employment.
In this course, we were able to participate in many hands-on activities with machines that you would usually see in a woodshop, and not a school. We did a total of 4 major projects in this class. We made jewelry boxes by using a table saw, miter saw, handheld sanding machines, soldering irons, etc. We also made pens using a miter saw, a lathe, and a pen-making kit. We also made Christmas gifts out of wood by using a miter saw, table saw, handheld sanding machines, and a laser engraving machine. The last project that we had was a choice assignment where we were able to make one of three things: a cutting board, a bowl, or a vase. In the end, I had made a cutting board, and I used a table saw, a miter saw, a handheld sanding machines, and wood oil. In the picture on the left, you can see the box that I had made in class with a drawing/painting of a car on the top.
