Anthony Kelley

Welcome. I'm an assistant professor of philosophy at Louisiana State University. I work mostly in theoretical and practical ethics. 

I'm married to Chasity, and we have two boys, Anthony (9) and Jackie (6).

Recent activity:

• In Feb. 2024, I won a $15,000 grant from the Life Worth Living Network of Yale Divinity School to develop a course, tentatively titled Human Flourishing in the Digital Age, exploring how recent and future advances in technology present both opportunities and challenges for human flourishing. 

• In Jan. 2024, I won a $7,500 grant from the Research & Creativity Support Fund of the LSU Provost's Fund for Innovation and Research to work on a paper, tentatively titled "Welfare Subjectivity," concerning the conditions for the capacity to be benefited and harmed.  

• I will present my paper "What Should the Desire Theorist Say About Ill-Being?" at the 5th Annual Moral & Political Philosophy Workshop at Dartmouth College in April 2024. 

• I presented a new paper, "The Hedonic Tone Theory of Pleasure" at the Minnesota Workshop on Well-Being at the University of Minnesota in July 2023 and at the Axiology Workshop at McGill University in Sept. 2023.

• I presented my paper, "A Theory of Prudential Alienation" at the 20th Annual Madison Metaethics Workshop. Pending peer review, the paper is to appear in a forthcoming volume of Oxford Studies in Metaethics.  

• I have promised my paper, "What Should the Desire Theorist Say About Ill-Being?," to Mauro Rossi and Christine Tappolet’s edited volume, Perspectives on Ill-Being, which is under contract with Oxford University Press.

• I presented my paper, "The New Internalism About Prudential Value," at the 5th Annual Chapel Hill Normativity Workshop. Pending peer review, the paper is to appear in a forthcoming issue of Philosophical Studies.
