PRACTICAL NOTES

REQUIREMENTS TO PARTICIPATE ON THIS TRIP

Nearly all of the Covid-related restrictions & requirements previously in place to enter Chile, our gateway to Antarctica, have now thankfully been lifted, so we are back to much simpler preparation for travel.

Considering the latest rules for entry to Chile & our partner Antarctica21's policies for the trip, you can expect the following:

Required for trip participation:

  • You'll need a passport that is valid for at least 6 months after the trip, and with sufficient room for stamps.

  • You'll need travel insurance that at minimum has emergency medical / evacuation coverage. (required by Antarctica21)

  • You'll need proof of Covid vaccination (required by Antarctica 21 + simplifies arrival in Chile*)

*Showing your U.S. vaccine card (or other country's) upon entry to Chile will allow you to skip the Covid test requirement still in place for unvaccinated travelers entering the country. Antarctica21 recommends having at least 1 booster on your record.

Related notes:

  • Please also note that Antarctica21 requires travelers over the age of 75 to submit a medical certificate in order to join the trip.

  • We will inform any booked travelers if any regulations change and will be eager to assist with any new process, if it comes into place.

  • In case you've read about these elsewhere, rest assured that Chile NO LONGER REQUIRES travelers to obtain a mobility pass or to fill out a C-19 health declaration prior to arrival. Covid tests are only a factor to consider for travelers that are not fully vaccinated.

ASSURANCES / FAQ

Chile, our gateway to Antarctica, has received international recognition for its impressively effective management of the pandemic.

Their vaccine campaign has in particular been of note:

  • They have consistently been in the top 7 countries in the world with % of population vaccinated (95%),

  • As of April 2022, they have THE highest % population in the globe that has received boosters (92%).

That success—together with encouraging trends around the world such as decreasing severity of even recent highly transmissible variants, etc—make us feel more confident than we have been at any point since early 2020 about this trip running exactly as planned.

Nonetheless, we know it's important to plan for unforeseen scenarios, even if exceedingly unlikely.

To answer a few questions with that in mind:

If there were an unexpected turn of events and Antarctica21 had to cancel this trip before departure, what would happen?

You would have the option to either reschedule for a future date (keeping your 2022 price even if it increases for new bookings) OR to receive a full refund.

If I buy a travel insurance policy with Travel Insured International (our partner), what will happen if Antarctica21 cancels this trip, or if I decide to postpone?

Travel Insured International will simply adjust the policy to new trip dates, or simply offer you a credit for future use.

Will a Travel Insured International insurance policy cover me if I fall ill or test positive for Covid?

Certainly. In their own words: "COVID-19 is treated that same as any other sickness for purposes of all coverages that are triggered by a sickness or that can reimburse losses resulting from a sickness." So, if getting Covid prevents you from traveling, your policy will cover you. If you get Covid while you are traveling, benefits will apply. Etc.
