Not literally.. but almost.. :)
Well it is commanding your computer to do things you want it to do.. just by typing those short commands. It is more than just executing programs (which you can do mostly using Run->executable name).
It actually has a lot of context based commands. If you have used ubiquity in firefox browser, you know what I am talking of.. (extends the same logic to entire OS).
Simple Example: Basically you type "open email" and it opens your email.
Context Based: I literally typed "400/234" on the page it could be anywhere, a document, notepad, excel, any text box...and then I selected the expression, and type "Calculate". Enso immediately replaces the expression with "1.709401709401709401709401709". You know what I mean :) Its cool.. best being you could invoke a lot of things by typing without switching windows..miniize maximize..going out of your current program etc. Of course never believe what you hear..or others say..!!
Can we literally talk to it?
I am exploring that part right now. At least that led me to activating the speech processing capabilities of XP(Most computers may not have it activated by default , but you have to install it using Add Remove Change Programs and selecting your office program, which will bring the update wizard, and you can check on Alternative Input->Speech Processing. You wont need to go back to install disk, its already in your PC.. )
But somehow when the Enso command window comes up the commands which I speak out are not typed on to Enso, but in the previously active window. If there could be a work around.. we could LITERALLY talk to the computer :) Someone game to try and give a hack?
