Movement and music
The use of movement and music is important in promoting creativity in early childhood education, as it enables children to express emotions, develop coordination and explore their imagination (Howard & Mayesky ,2022) . These activities are designed to promote cognitive ,social ,and physical growth while also encouraging self-expression sand problem solving skills (Isbell & Akiko –Yoshizawa , 2016) .Gross motor skills are improved by movement activities like dance and free-play ,while music experiences help children understand patterns ,rhythm, and the variation of sound (Niland ,2015) .Incorporating movement and music into curriculum creates an engaging multisensory learning environment that promotes creativity ,critical thinking and communication skills ( Dinham & Chalk, 2018).
THEORIES AND PERSPECTIVES
According to Vygotsky’s interactional theory ,music and movement are seen as crucial to creative development , as children acquire knowledge through social interactions and cultural experiences ( Howard & Mayesky , 2022). In Gardner’s (1983), children’s ability to express creativity through rhythm and movement is showcased by highlighting musical bodily –kinesthetic intelligences (Isbell & Akiko – Yoshizawa , 2016 ). According to the embodied cognition theory, movement enhances cognitive processes and aids in language development and problem –solving 9Dinham & Chalk, 2018). These viewpoints assert that integrating movement and music into early learning environments, fosters creative expression , encourages exploration and aids holistic development (Niland ,2015).
RESOURCES AND TECHNOLOGIES
Educators can utilize a wide range of resources to entice children to participate in movement and music activities ,such as traditional instruments like maracas , drums , xylophones and digital tools such as Garage Band and Soundtrap (Howard & Mayesky , 2022 ) . Learning experiences are enhanced by interactive whiteboards that have rhythm games and videos whereas props like scarves and ribbons encourage creative movement ( Isbell & Akiko – Yoshizawa , 2016 ). The freedom of movement afforded by outdoor play spaces supports gross motor development ( Niland , 2015 ). Creating their own music through digital storytelling platforms and loop –based composition software is a way for children to express themselves and foster innovation ( Dinham & Chalk , 2018 ).
LEARNING EXPERIENCES
0-2 years: playing sensory music with instruments such as tambourines and shakers encourages sound exploration (Howard & Mayesky , 2022).
2-3 years: coordination can be developed by incorporating movement and rhythm in action songs such as “If You’re Happy and You Know “ ( Niland , 2015).
3-5 years :creative movement can be cultivated through free dance sessions that use scarves and props ( Isbell & Akiko – Yoshizawa , 2016).
6-8: using digital tools like Garage Bands to compo0se music as a group , encouraging collaborative creativity (Dinham & Chalk , 2018).
CREATIVE LEARNING OPORTUNITIES
0-2 years – Musical Sensory Bins aids infants in exploring different textures and sounds by using a bin filled with soft fabric, bells and rattles which promotes auditory and tactile sensory experiences (Howard & Mayesky , 2022 ).
2-3 years - Rhythm and Movements parades involve children using homemade instruments like rice shakers and drum boxes to create rhythmic patterns while marching which aids in coordination and self – expression (NILAND , 2015).
3-5 years – children use expressive movement and music to tell a familiar story7 while developing narrative skills and imaginative thinking through dance (Isbell & Akiko – Yoshizao, 2015 ).
DIGITAL EVIDENCE
CRITICAL REFLECTION AND EVALUATION
My adaptability, improvisation and music passion enable me to enhance my
ability to facilitatemovement and music experiences in early childhood
education .The use of creativity in teaching movement and music promotes
engagement , self- confidence and social collaboration (Howard & Myesky
,2022). My goal is to inspire young learners to experiment with sounds, rhythm
and expressive movements by integrating child- led exploration and sensory
experiences (Isbell & Akiko – Yashizawo, 2016).I am open to using digital
technologies ,like music composition ,software and interactive movement activities , to keep learning dynamic and inclusive (Dinham & Chalk ,2018). I use these methods to create an enriching creative environment where children learn essential skills like, problem – solving , critical thinking and artistic expression. Movement and music integration not only enhances cognitive and motor development but also promotes social- emotional learning ,by allowing children to connect with others through shared experiences (Niland ,2015).My goal is to create an inclusive curriculum that honors different artistic expressions while incorporating diverse cultural music and movement traditions in the future (Howard & Mayesky , 2022).
