I am privileged to have had many opportunities for leadership and service across my scholarly and professional experiences, a few of which are highlighted below. I am happy to expound upon these experiences, so reach out to learn more.
While completing my doctoral studies, I served as co-editor-in-chief of this public health journal published by Temple University.
I enjoy volunteering with this community organization as often as my schedule permits. Check out some of their excellent work!
A simple cheek swab is all it takes for you to be the match for someone suffering from cancer and potentially save a life! I was able to donate my bone marrow via NMDP while a second-year PhD student at Temple.Â
While working as a speech-language pathologist at the New Mexico Veterans Affairs Health Care System, I spearheaded an evidence-based quality improvement initiative to educate nurses and first-line care providers on the importance of oral care in preventing aspiration pneumonia, a common hospital-acquired infection. To implement the project, I sought and obtained support from interdepartmental chiefs and upper-level hospital administration. This project ultimately yielded a decrease in hospital acquired pneumonias and decreased length of hospital stay, yielding institutional cost savings and improved health outcomes for patients.
