My name is Annie Wolfson and I am thrilled to have been on this journey towards a Masters in Library and Information Sciences (MLIS) at the University of North Carolina Greensboro (UNCG). My path towards librarianship has been an a-typical one. As a child with Attention Deficit Disorder, I did not like learning to read but was blessed to have parents and educators in my life that saw my intelligence as strong and unique. As a young adult, I found my passion for reading and the written word as I pursued an Honors Bachelors degree from the University of Toronto followed by a career as a singer-songwriter in NYC composing, recording, and performing original works. As a young parent in Washington, D.C. I ran a successful pet care business while my husband receveid his MLIS. His experience opened my eyes to the versatility and creativity possible within the field. As we added more children to our little family, I found myself at our local library weekly, excited by what I saw the Children's Librarians doing there. After a decade considering it I finally decided to go for my own MLIS, and I am so very glad that I did.
I am in my first year as a full-time School Librarian at an amazing charter school in Washington, D.C. and I look forward to putting into action the knowledge and expertise that UNCG has given me. The purpose of this portfolio is to highlight that knowledge. Throughout, you will see evidence of work I have done that represents the American Association of School Librarian (AASL) Standards, as well as the Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs) for the MLIS program at the University of North Carolina Greensboro.
