For many years, Anne Frank Elementary has been recognized as one of the largest elementary schools in Dallas ISD, with over one thousand students every year. We feel proud for being able to complete a family survey every two years. This survey has helped us to identify that our families represent 58 different countries and speaks 26 languages. Our school reality leads us to create the Cultural Integration Center. This is our way of:
-- Supporting students who are considered "newcomers" to our country to acquire English as a second language and adapt to the new United States culture without releasing or forgetting their first language and culture.
-- Creating a school-wide safe environment that promotes and represents the diversity shown in our students, families, staff, and administration.
-- Nourish the whole community with the motto "I Belong, You Belong, We Belong."
At the Cultural Integration Center at Anne Frank Elementary, we have the whole child in mind. Participants will receive instruction outside their classroom, focused on academic support, language acquisition, social interaction, and emotional strengthening. The services will be provided in a scaffolded model for the first three years after arriving in the country. The main goal is to help them bridge their knowledge into their new language and culture without forgetting or releasing their first one.
To participate in the Cultural Integration Center, the students should be:
registered to Dallas ISD through the Margaret & Gilbert Herrera Intake Center.
part of the district's English as a Second Language (ESL) program.
a recent immigrant that just arrived from another country to Kindergarten through 5th Grade.
an English Language Learner (ELL).
a recent immigrant who has lived outside of the United States for two consecutive years or more.
identified, placed, assessed, and monitored by the campus Language Proficiency Assessment Committee (LPAC).
These students will receive services from the program, including but not limited to intensive English language instruction during the first three years of enrollment in a U.S. school. The instruction will be focused on ensuring English learners attain proficiency in English to participate equitably in school.
