We use the term "global citizen" often, but do your students KNOW what a global citizen looks like at their age/ability level? For that matter, are you sure yourself?
Among the many eye-opening moments I had during the TGC process was assessing my own level of Global Citizenship as both an individual and an educator. Let’s just say I had a long way to go! Learning about the ways I could grow as a Global Citizen and become a role model for my students was the beginning of a shift for me on many levels, not just professional ones. I highly recommend that you check out the Global Competence Questionnaire below. In fifteen minutes or less, you’ll understand yourself, your attitudes and your actions better.
Our students will also be at different points in their journey to global citizenship. To help them–and you–self-assess, I’ve included resources below. If you’re interested in learning more about a school-level approach to Global Education, check out the Global Education Checklist.
Also, in our state, the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching (NCCAT) offers sessions offers sessions on the NC Global-Ready schools implementation rubric and designation.
