Tuning in Movement
For University Art Students & Creative Practitioners
For University Art Students & Creative Practitioners
Directed toward university art students, creative practitioners or deeply committed individuals seeking a deeper physical language, these Masterclasses explore gesture, form, and presence in motion, reimagining the tools of physical theater through a distinct, unscripted lens.
The aim
is not to execute a rehearsed performance, but to refine the instrument "behind the scenes", building the capacity to:
1. Allow a live, improvised piece to unfold on stage with a collective structure so seamless that, through the deep tuning of the practitioners, it remains indistinguishable from a fully composed work.
2. Inform their own individual art practice with deep presence and kinetic intelligence.
Above all the practice opens a space for discovery and somatic inhabitance as both an active living state and a profoundly artistic experience. Two human dimensions that elementally intertwine.
Diverse sources of inspiration converge in this process - from art and literature to science and martial art principles - serving as a lens, not as a blueprint, and enriching the practice by opening up new angles of movement and physical insight.
The Practice
Our body, whether it simply breathes, responds to practical necessities, or navigates complex experiences, is constantly and inevitably moving. In these Masterclasses, we focus on this intrinsic movement - from the flow of breath to subtle, sophisticated bodily dynamics - as a foundation for artistic inquiry.
We engage with the body as an instrument of perception and creation, observing how presence, intentionality, and chance converge simultaneously to give rise to movement.
In this practice, we do not follow choreography imposed from outside, nor do we drift into improvisation without structure. We inhabit the space between.
We cultivate an environment where movement unfolds organically, guided by inner awareness and interaction. Story, meaning, and form arise from the constant dialogue between the internal ecosystem and the world around us, honoring the body as the bridge between the two, and revealing sequences that are at once deeply personal and universally resonant.
The work spans ritualistic, natural, articulated and narrative-inspired movement, entering into a constant collaboration with the dramatic architecture of the stage. This inquiry demands focus, attention, and responsiveness to both self and others in the group, to both inside and out. Through this process, the body becomes both medium and collaborator, revealing movement as a language of existence, of relating, of art.
The Structure
Just like in Tuning Art Practices, these sessions are structured in levels. Participants may begin with foundational aspects of movement and gradually progress into deeper, more intricate explorations. Each individual is encouraged to move at their own pace, fully engaging with each level before advancing.
Ultimately, this practice invites participants to discover the expressive, perceptive and artistic hidden nature of the living body, revealing movement itself as art and deep presence as a creative act.
