Curriculum

Dr. Annalisa Milella (born on March 9, 1979) has been a Researcher at the Institute of Intelligent Systems for Automation (ISSIA), National Research Council (CNR), Bari, Italy, from 2009 to 2018. Since June 2018, she has been a Researcher at the Institute of Intelligent Industrial Technologies and Systems for Advanced Manufacturing (STIIMA) of CNR.

She received the Laurea (summa cum laude) and the Research Doctorate degrees from the Politecnico of Bari, Italy, in 2002 and 2006, respectively, both in Mechanical Engineering. From 2006 to 2009, she worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher at ISSIA-CNR. In 2005, she was a Visiting PhD student at the EPFL Autonomous Systems Laboratory, Lausanne, Switzerland. She was Visiting Researcher at the Australian Centre for Field Robotics, University of Sydney in 2010, and at the Danish Technological Institute, Odense, Denmark in 2016.

Her main research interests are in the field of robotics and automation, and concern in particular multi-sensor systems for robot perception in structured/unstructured environments, 3D reconstruction and mapping, signal and image processing applied to robotics and intelligent systems, vision-based surveillance and inspection systems.

She is author of more than 70 publications on international journals, conference proceedings, and book chapters.

She participates to national and international working groups. In particular, she was a member of the steering committee of the technical group GTTS3 Sistemiper la valorizzazione delle persone nelle fabbriche (Factories for humans) of the Cluster Fabbrica Intelligente (Intelligent Factories Cluster) from 2015 to 2018. She has been a Member of IEEE RAS Technical Committee (TC) on Multi-Robot Systems (MRS) since 2015, and of IEEE RAS Agricultural Robotics and Automation technical committee since 2014. She was member of the technical program committee of several international conferences and workshops. She is project referee for MIUR Italy, Czech Science Foundation, and National Center of Science and Technology Evaluation Kazakistan. She has been a reviewer for the Evaluation of Research Quality (VQR) 2011-2014 of the National Agency for the Evaluation of Universities and Research Institutes.

She is a reviewer for various international journals (incl. Industrial Robot, Emerald Sensor Review, Emerald International Journal of Advanced Robotic Systems, InTech Sensors, MDPI Soft Computing, Springer International Journal of Intelligent Systems Technologies and Applications, Inderscience Publishers Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute ETRI Journal; Computers and Electronics in Agriculture, Elsevier; Robotics and Autonomous Systems, Elsevier).

She has been member of the editorial board of International Journal of Advanced Robotic Systems since 2012, of Sensor Review since December 2014, Internet Technology Letters since 2017 and of Journal of Intelligent Manufacturing since February 2019.

She is scientific responsible of STIIMA-CNR unit in the following projects:

- POR Puglia FESR-FSE 2014-2020. E-SHELF - Electronic Shopping & Home delivery of Edible goods with Low environmental Footprint.

- FP7 ERA-NET ICT-AGRI2 Simultaneous Safety and Surveying for Collaborative Agricultural Vehicles (S3-CAV).

In 2012, she has been scientific responsible for ISSIA-CNR unit of the research agreement between ISSIA-CNR and University of Salento under the FP7 ERA-NET ICT-AGRI Ambient Awareness for Autonomous Agricultural Vehicles (QUAD-AV) project.

She has been invited speaker during seminars and academic courses at the Politecnico of Bari, University of Bari, and University of Salento. She was a speaker at Convegno di Dipartimento Ingegneria, ICT, e Tecnologie per l'Energia e i Trasporti of CNR La città sostenibile: innovazione scientifica e tecnologica per città efficienti, sicure e sane. She was a speaker on the topic Passive 3D vision systems at Corso Nazionale Automazione Industriale e Robotica SIRI 2016 Prepararsi all'industria 4.0, which was held on 25/10/2016 in Bari.

She was one of the organizers of the IEEE AVSS-Workshop on Intelligent Technologies for Environmental Monitoring (ITEM), which was held on August 29th 2017, in Lecce.

She has been session chair at: 7th IFAC Symposium on Intelligent Autonomous Vehicles, September 6-8, 2010, Lecce, Italy, Session: Distributed Control; 14th International Conference on Advanced Robotics (ICAR), June 22-26 2009, Munich, Germany, Session "Localization and Mapping"; ASME/IEEE Advanced Intelligent Mechatronics AIM 2007- Session: "Mobile Robot Localization I".

She received the Emerald Literati Network Outstanding Paper Award in the topic of Advanced Automation, 2007 for the paper: Milella A., Reina G., and FogliaM., Computer Vision Technology for Agricultural Robotics, Sensor Review, 26(4): 290-300, November 2006.

She has taught academic courses and seminars in the field of applied mechanics, maintenance of mechanical systems, computer vision, and robot mechanics. She is co-advisor of several thesis in collaboration with the Politecnico of Bari, the University of Bari and the University of Salento.
