I am currently in the process of making a fake tomato ad poster! I have sort of run into a wall on what to fill the rest of the page with though. This is my second actual decent piece of artwork I have done digitally and it has been actually getting easier! I figured out a color palette and learned how to draw the inside of a tomato, which I haven't done at this level of detail before. I learned how to use the digital art tools I have without making it look lifeless like the first few I did. This upcoming week I hope to finish this up and find out what to put in the empty space on the right. In class I will not be working on this though, but instead I will be working on my altered reality piece, which I am kind of excited to start working on.
I sadly do not have any photos of my mouse knight piece but I have been working on it for the past week. I also have been drawing and sketching random things into my sketchbook. Mostly I have been drawing in order to overcome my current art block. I drew lots of faces and some non-faces which is very rare of me. It has been difficult to sit down and do art recently, but I plan to keep pushing because I know I will find the inspiration to do more drawing soon. This upcoming week I plan to finish the mouse piece and maybe even do the other two ideas.
I finally finished my mouse piece this week! I did the final green details and then I painted the frame. Over the next few days I gave the frame detail and ended up also using clay to give depth. It took a few too many coats to cover the white clay. In the end I believe it turned out pretty okay! I do wish it was easier to add good detail to the frame, but for what it's worth I like the stuff I was able to do with it. In the future I think I will embrace using clay for the whole frame. This upcoming week I plan to work on my painting. This painting is based on the concept of "eat the rich." I'm very excited and really hope it turns out good.
I did a still life in class this week but sadly I have no photos of it. I definitely challenged myself because I really don't enjoy doing realism. I think I grew in learning that realism doesn't always mean tiny details, it can be the larger shape. I finished this plant still life and I hope to cut it into a nice shape. At home I have been trying to get better at animation! This has been very fun and I have one I am kind of proud of.
I spent the majority of the class time this week painting a canvas black. I coated it in a layer of gesso and after it dried I painted it fully black. It was surprisingly difficult! This black canvas is going to be used for my painting that I spoke about in my 3rd entry. This week I will be painting the figure on it and planning out the shape of it. Hopefully next week I can start adding details.
This week I started drawing the figure in my painting and I realized it was not going to work out. Not only was I struggling a lot with painting a human realistically and seriously, but more so the message I wished to portray wouldn't make sense in the way I wanted it to if I painted what I was going to paint. So after this revelation I realized I wanted to just draw something pretty that similarly has a meaning, but maybe it doesn't have to be as big as I wanted, meaning wise. This upcoming week I hope to paint some good bases for these new fruits and plants in the painting and I hope that it works out.
I finally got the base colors down for the fruits and flower pot this week. The grapes have been a struggle but I finally think I'm on my way to making them look good. It was really difficult to figure out how to make things pop but I realized that if I paint white underneath things before I paint them their actual colors it makes it pop much much more. This upcoming week I plan to lighten the grapes a little bit more and then begin on the other fruits.
This is a really bad photo of it, but I've now placed in a skull and I am nearing the end of this painting. The difficulty for me has been making the lighting on the skull realistic. I still have not figured it out quite yet. The flowers also have been difficult because they do not look realistic enough. This week I plan to finish adding more to the bouquet and also fix the lighting on the skull. Once I've done this I will see if it looks done or not. I hope I get to finish it soon!
I am finally done with my painting!! I am very proud of it and I finished the last step of making the lighting on the skull look better! This is the best painting I've ever done, but that's sort of a low bar because I don't paint a ton. Either way though, I think it's a very cool piece and I am so proud of how it turned out. The only thing I would change if I were to do it again is that I would've made the items in the painting a little brighter and added a little more light source.
I am working on creating a pumpkin head doll right now, since my painting is finally done. The pumpkin man has weighted feet and a weighted head with metal bits. I am currently fixing up his outfit but he is well on his way to being done. It was a little difficult to figure out how to make his head have the pumpkin ridges but I got to use paper clay for it and it worked very well. This upcoming week I hope to finish up his outfit and clean up some stitching on him.
