This section of the Portfolio presents the strategies employed in my teaching and learning particularly in attaining IAP Module for Nurturing Engaged and Empowered Learners (NEEL).
It is a well established fact that learners come in diverse backgrounds, learning styles and needs.
In order to better understand the diversity of the learners, I always make it a point to administer an introductory survey on my student, during the first week of the semester. The aim of the survey is to know my students better, to appreciate their diverse backgrounds, learning styles and needs, so that I can structure my teaching approach to suit to my students.
The survey is called V-A-R-K survey.
V = Visual
A = Auditory
R = Read
K = Kinaesthetic

The V-A-R-K survey instrument used in this study is shown below.
Upon realising the diverse background of my learners (from my lecturer-observation as well as findings of the V'A'R'K survey), I decided to introduce few strategies for the purpose of enriching the learning experiences of my students. One of the strategies I employed in my classrooms is called: Think-pair-share coupled with Wait-time.
Think-pair-share is an activity which allows the students to think in pairs and then share their thoughts. Literally, it consists of three main ideas:
Think: The students are given an activity sheet with instructions, and they would answer the questions/address the instructions which revolve around the topic of discussion on that day.
Pair: The students would complete the activity sheet in pairs/couples.
Share: The students get to brainstorm ideas in completing the activity sheets, by sharing their thoughts between one another, and consequently to share their thoughts to the entire class.
On the other hand, wait-time is an established strategy for facilitating learning process - it essentially means: To give more/extended time for the students to think/reflect before actually getting them to answer the questions/instructions.
The example reflection by students' after carrying out this strategy is shown below.
My own reflection after carrying out this strategy is shown below.

The entire strategy of think-pair-share and wait-time is encapsulated in the following presentation.
