Integrated Geophysical Research Group
Welcome to the web page of my group!
I am an Associate Professor in the department of Earth Sciences, Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IITK), India; and I have been working as a faculty member at this department since April 2015. I broadly interested in near surface geophysical studies, geophysical data enhancement and modeling.
I completed B.Sc. (2005), and M.Sc. (2007) in Physics from University of Calcutta and Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi (IITD), respectively. I received my doctorate (PhD) degree in Geophysics from the department of Geology and Geophysics, Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur (IITKgp), India, in December 2013. Prior to joining at IITK, I was working as a Project Scientist at the Theoretical Modelling Group, National Geophysical Research Institute(NGRI), India.
I work on exploration geophysics field to understand shallow crustal configuration and to delineate natural resources employing integrated geophysical approach. I use gravimeter, magnetometer, electrical and EM equipment to acquire related geophysical data. I also work towards developing improved workflow and approaches for geophysical data enhancement, machine learning assisted interpretation, and subsurface modeling.

Many congratulations to Anjali for receiving the award of FULL sponsorship to attend the 2024 IMAGE Conference during 26–29 August in Houston, Texas.
Congratulations and best wishes to Anjali for the acceptance of an extended abstract from her thesis work for poster presentation at the fourth annual International Meeting for Applied Geoscience and Energy (IMAGE), 26–29 August in Houston, Texas.
A manuscript has just been accepted in the EGU journal titled 'Solid Earth' from the PhD thesis work of Ms. Ananya P. Mukherjee. Congratulations Ananya! In this work, global gravity model data has been utilized to depict the crustal structure and a thick, mafic underplated layer above Moho that points to the existence of Proterozoic plume activity of the region covered by Proterozoic sedimentary basins, in the southern part of Bundelkhand craton in central India. Thus, the study deciphered crustal configuration of this region thereby offers insights into the geodynamic processes that led to the formation of the basins.
Pratik and Anjali both have received the EAGE PACE grants to attend the upcoming 85th EAGE annual conference and exhibition, Oslo, Norway during 10-13 June 2024. Heartiest congratulations to both of them!
Congratulations and best wishes to Pratik, Anjali and Ananya for the acceptance of their extended abstracts for poster, poster and oral presentation, respectively at the 85th EAGE annual conference and exhibition, Oslo!
Utsav has successfully completed his PhD defense seminar on 15th March2024 . Heartiest congratulations to Utsav!
Ms. Ananya P. Mukherjee has received the 'ONGC-IGU Best Poster Presentation Award-2023' for her poster on 'Estimation of Curie depth and heat flow for central part of Eastern Ghats Mobile belt: insight into non-volcanic geothermal system' at the '60th Annual Convention of Indian Geophysical Union (IGU)' at CUSAT, Kochi, Kerala during Nov 22-24 2023. Heartiest congratulations to Ananya!
A manuscript has just been accepted in 'Energy Geoscience ' from the thesis work of Ms. Anjali Dixit. Congratulations Anjali! In this work, an impedance based texture attribute workflow is developed for efficient demarcation of hydrocarbon-bearing sand facies and mapping facies heterogeneity in conjunction with fault networks to improve the inference on reservoir heterogeneity.
Aurobindo has received a postdoctoral offer from University College Dublin, Ireland and will be joining from October 2023. Heartiest congratulations to Aurobindo!
Utsav has submitted his PhD thesis entitled 'A coupled approach for groundwater contamination study and delineation of artificial recharge sites based on electrical resistivity tomography (ERT) and conventional methods' on 11th August 2023. Heartiest congratulations to Utsav!
Aurobindo has successfully completed his PhD defense seminar on 17th May2023 . Heartiest congratulations to Aurobindo!
A manuscript has just been accepted in 'Geophysics ' from the thesis work of Ms. Anjali Dixit. Congratulations Anjali! In this work, a state-of-the-art hybrid optimizer named genetic-evolutionary adaptive moment estimation (GADAM) is employed in an innovative semi-supervised deep sequential convolution network-based learning framework for accurate seismic impedance inversion.
