Welcome to the web page of my group!
I am an Associate Professor in the department of Earth Sciences, Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IITK), India; and I have been working as a faculty member at this department since April 2015. I broadly interested in near surface geophysical studies, geophysical data enhancement and modeling.
I completed B.Sc. (2005), and M.Sc. (2007) in Physics from University of Calcutta and Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi (IITD), respectively. I received my doctorate (PhD) degree in Geophysics from the department of Geology and Geophysics, Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur (IITKgp), India, in December 2013. Prior to joining at IITK, I was working as a Project Scientist at the Theoretical Modelling Group, National Geophysical Research Institute(NGRI), India.
I work on exploration geophysics field to understand shallow crustal configuration and to delineate natural resources employing integrated geophysical approach. I use gravimeter, magnetometer, electrical and EM equipment to acquire related geophysical data. I also work towards developing improved workflow and approaches for geophysical data enhancement, machine learning assisted interpretation, and subsurface modeling.

A manuscript has just been accepted in 'JESS' from the PhD thesis work of Dr. Utsav Mishra. Congratulations Utsav!
Many congratulations to Anjali on receiving a post-doctoral offer from the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology, under the supervision of Prof. Tariq Alkhalifah! She will be joining soon.
Anjali has completed the PhD defense seminar on 22nd May 2025. Heartiest congratulations to Anjali!
Ayushi has defended her MTech thesis on 14th May 2025. Heartiest congratulations to Ayushi!
Ananya has defended the PhD open seminar titled 'Gravity-magnetic study in the eastern and central parts of the Indian Shield: implications on non-volcanic geothermal system and Proterozoic basin formation' on 08th May 2025.
Heartiest congratulations to Anjali for being selected as a FARE (Fellowship for Academic and Research Excellence) Fellow at the Department of Earth Sciences, IITK.
Heartiest Congratulations to Ayushi on receiving the certificate of merit for Academic Excellence in the Master of Technology in Earth Sciences for the year 2023-24. The top 10% of the students of each department are given this award based on their past year's API (CPI of the previous academic year).
A manuscript has just been accepted in 'Geothermics' from the PhD thesis work of Ms. Ananya P. Mukherjee. Congratulations Ananya! In this work, available global magnetic and gravity grid data are used to offer a better understanding of the thermal aspects for a part of the Eastern Ghats Mobile Belt (EGMB) crust, belonging to the Mahanadi geothermal province (MGP) and their consequences on the geothermal setup of the study area thereby deciphering the linkages between the occurrence of four hot springs of MGP and the prevalent structural setup of the EGMB .
Heartiest congratulations to Ananya on receiving the best poster presentation (2nd prize) in the National conference on 'Emerging Trends in Earth Sciences: Geohazards and Resource Management (ETES-2024)' at the Dept. of Applied Geophysics, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, during September 27-29, 2024.
Many congratulations to Anjali on receiving the award of FULL sponsorship to attend the 2024 IMAGE Conference from 26–29 August in Houston, Texas.
Congratulations and best wishes to Anjali for the acceptance of an extended abstract from her thesis work for poster presentation at the fourth annual International Meeting for Applied Geoscience and Energy (IMAGE), 26–29 August in Houston, Texas.
A manuscript has just been accepted in the EGU journal titled 'Solid Earth' from the PhD thesis work of Ms. Ananya P. Mukherjee. Congratulations Ananya! In this work, global gravity model data has been utilized to depict the crustal structure and a thick, mafic underplated layer above Moho that points to the existence of Proterozoic plume activity of the region covered by Proterozoic sedimentary basins, in the southern part of Bundelkhand craton in central India. Thus, the study deciphered the crustal configuration of this region, thereby offering insights into the geodynamic processes that led to the formation of the basins.
Utsav has completed his PhD defense seminar on 15th March 2024. Heartiest congratulations to Utsav!
Aurobindo has received a postdoctoral offer from University College Dublin, Ireland, starting from October 2023. Heartiest congratulations to Aurobindo!
