Goku w/ Luffy, Ichigo & Naruto
The fourth and final subtopic is less pragmatic than the others. Rather it is more opinionated but nevertheless based on the amount of influence it has had. I refer to the apparent “Big Three” of anime, however this does not refer exclusively to the “Big Three” of the 2000s. These three are mostly know as, “Naruto, Bleach & One Piece” which have dominated most of modern anime conversations.
The three most influential anime refers not only to “Bleach” in its summary even as influential this anime was. The inclusion of an anime that I would plainly say has more of an impact and footprint on the anime community. This anime being “Dragon Ball Z”, which not only has solidified itself in anime but also in mainstream worldwide. In essence, my personal “Big Three” is Dragon Ball Z, Naruto & One Piece, with their unique styles and approaches being explored.
One interesting fact concerning Naruto as a manga going into its adaptation into anime form; was the length of time it took for its mangaka, Kishimoto. It is stated that he was married before the start of the shows production, and in the end making his wife wait 10 years for their honeymoon.
An interesting fact concerning Dragon Ball Z; is that it drew most of its influences from a classic Chinese story called “Journey to the West”. While Dragon Ball has very little connection to the actual story of the Chinese tale, some of the personas portrayed within the anime were heavily inspired by it.
