From the start of the animation process, exchanging concept art and drawing sketches of what will later be improved upon is the usual starting point. The storyboarding aspect is where the drawings are placed and not necessarily “animated.” Instead, it is the implementation of those drawings in the storyline they were written for. At this stage, the drawing of scenes and plotlines must be in place before any actual animation is added. Near the end or when the animation is in stride; special effects are added. This can be termed as a type of polish, but it is very crucial to the overall process.
This animation process as described above is a crucial aspect of anime. Without this subtopic being explored, there is a gaping hole within the understanding of the evolution of anime.
One interesting fact delves deep into the harsh realities faced by the animators in Japan’s bustling industry. This is present even amidst the challenging situations of long hours and relatively low wages. Furthermore, because of the hierarchical structure common within animations studios; there are limited avenues for any advancements in careers.
Animators passionately state their love for their craft and the satisfaction derived from seeing their creations come to life on screen. Another interesting fact within the animation workspace is the use key-frames and in-between frames. These are typically used to fill any animation gaps regarding motion and movement of characters.
