"Three Days of Supervision: Dedication in the Silence of Exams"
Supervising exams at a high school in the Philippines for three days was truly an eye-opening experience, especially when it came to cultural differences in the education system. I was quite surprised to learn that exams there only lasted for three days, with four subjects being tested each day. This was quite a shock to me since, in Indonesia, exams usually take longer and typically cover only one or two subjects per day. At first, I felt worried seeing how packed their exam schedule was. I imagined how exhausted and stressed the students would be, having to tackle four subjects in one day. However, what truly amazed me was how calm and orderly they were during the exams. There was no noise or visible anxiety. The students sat with focus and concentration, calmly working on their papers as if they were already accustomed to such an intense exam routine.
Throughout the three days of supervision, I learned a lot about how cultural differences can shape learning habits and perspectives. Even though it was quite different from what I was used to in Indonesia, the Filipino students demonstrated remarkable discipline and seriousness in taking their exams. I felt proud to witness their dedication firsthand and was inspired by their calmness in facing academic challenges. This experience taught me that differences are not obstacles to learning from one another. Instead, diversity is an opportunity to gain valuable lessons and broaden our perspectives. I will always remember these three meaningful days as an important part of my learning journey in the Philippines
Silent Observations, Loud Realizations 🎊
During my observation at the elementary school and in Estefania, I was truly amazed and impressed by the learning atmosphere there. From the first day to the last, I was warmly welcomed with great enthusiasm from both students and teachers. Not only that, but I also learned a lot from how they carried out the learning process with a deep sense of respect and discipline. What surprised me the most was how focused the students were during the lessons. They almost never played around or talked to each other, but instead always paid full attention to the teacher with great seriousness. Every word and explanation from the teacher was carefully listened to, as if they truly valued the knowledge being shared. I was in awe of how much they respected education.
Moreover, I noticed that these students were very intelligent and full of curiosity. When the teacher gave them the opportunity to ask questions, they eagerly raised their hands. Their questions not only showed curiosity but also a deep understanding of the material being taught. This showed that they truly absorbed what they learned and were not afraid to dig deeper. During my week-long stay in Estefania, I felt genuinely appreciated and warmly received. The positive learning environment and the support from everyone made me feel comfortable and motivated to keep learning and sharing experiences. It was truly amazing to witness how the dedication of teachers and the enthusiasm of students blended to create a harmonious and productive learning environment.
This experience will always be remembered as one of the most valuable moments in my journey as a future educator. I am truly grateful to have had the opportunity to learn from them, and I hope to bring the same spirit when I return to teach in my home country.
