I use primarily Autodesk Inventor as my subjects are typically future modeling projects. When I'm feeling up for a little fun, I use the LEGO modeling software Stud.io. Here are few of my recent works:
[WIP] Main Street Station at Walt Disney World (1:87 scale).
I recently acquired a hard-to-find model of the Magic Kingdom's steam locomotive Walter E. Disney in HO (1:87) scale. I thought of putting together a small diorama or display of it with a model of Main Street Station. I'll get this finished and 3D printed...eventually...
Southern Pacific GS-4 No. 4449 (1:48 scale)
I started this project many summers ago during college, using some original blueprints. The entire model was designed with 3d printing in mind, but that has yet to come to fruition. O (1:48) scale was originally chosen because of it's impressive size compared to HO scale but not so large as 1:32. However, the design came out to something closer to what model railroaders refer to as "Proto:48", as it has prototypically spaced and sized wheels.
Southern Pacific P-4 No. 2472 (1:48 scale)
This locomotive was made to be a companion to No. 4449 as it was once in real life.
LEGO Amtrak Amfleet I Coach (L Gauge)
It's the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic. What do you do? Build 3D models of LEGO trains, that's what! I had some inspiration to build models of the current Amtrak equipment, starting with this particularly iconic passenger coach. After being inspired by a few other models, this is the one I came up and was happy with. Although, I'm not the only one who was happy with it: this passenger car won first place for Best Passenger Car for the Americas in the 2020 Brick Train Awards (https://brickmodelrailroader.com/index.php/2020/07/17/brick-train-awards-2020-winners/).
