My name is Andrew Smith and I am a third year undergraduate student at the University of Georgia studying international affairs and attempting to get my Master's Degree in International Policy. I am currently working as an intramural referee for UGA's recreational sports department and serving as a Co-President for a student organization, Breaking the Shackles: Athens, that raises funds and awareness against modern-day slavery.
For two months of the summer in 2018, I had the pleasure of working as an intern for Friends of Refugees in Clarkston, GA. Specifically, I worked with the organization's Youth Programs as a Middle School camp coordinator, interacting with the same group of roughly 150 kids and teens, and I got to engage with the diverse community of Clarkston through this amazing opportunity. I luckily am still in contact with many of my friends in Clarkston and if you want to find out more about Friends of Refugees work or watch our summer camp slide show then click these links!
I am currently serving as the Co-President of Breaking the Shackles: Athens, which is a 501c3 non-profit organization as well as a student organization at UGA. We raise funds for partner organizations that assist those who have been affected by human trafficking, raise awareness towards the issue to our community, and serve in whatever capacities that may support those being persecuted today.
I am currently a part of UGA Wesley's LEAD/GROW program where I've gotten to engage in discipleship or mentorship with two amazing young men who also go to school at UGA. I am also being discipled by a Wesley intern who allows for me to explore the topic of faith and religion while becoming a better person who attempts to love others as myself too.
