Round table "AI in the ARTS"
On 22 June 2021, the ZJU library launches an inauguration event about the book "Debunking seven terrorism myths using statistics". The event was followed by a round table about AI in the ARTS. During the discussion, the attendence was asked to perform exercises using simple Shufa techniques, following the instructions of Zheng Rui from ZJU University. The goal was to introduce Shufa to the attendance and to identify how the practice of Shufa can contribute to a better health. The workshop ended with with the formulation of possible research projects involving Shufa, statistics, and artificial intelligence. We believe that Shufa can be used to improve health and we will organise a new event soon on health and Shufa.
Chinese calligraphy (or Shufa) is the writing of Chinese characters as an art form. It has been widely practiced in China and is considered as one of the four most-sought skills of ancient Chinese literati, along with playing stringed musical instruments, the board game "Go", and painting. Calligraphy has also led to the development of many forms of art in China, including seal carving, ornate paperweights, and inkstones.
Artificial intelligence (AI) often refers to the description of machines that mimic cognitive functions that humans associate with the human mind, such as learning and problem solving (Russell and Norvig. 2009). From a computer science point of view, AI can be viewed as the ability of a system to correctly interpret external data, to learn from such data, and to use those learnings to achieve specific goals and tasks through flexible adaptation (Kaplan and Haenlein, 2019).
