I enjoyed that task.
It was mechanical simple. It has a volume that I could handle on my desk alone and a volume my Mathcad could handle. I was forced to dig myself into a world of very small tolerance. Roller tolerance, pitch centre diameter for the simple gearing we have, pitting which was not a problem due to the low rotational speed, dry tolerance and friction. All that a mechanical engineer knows a lot about. Formore; I have to consider the weather on Greenland, which was the destination for the cran.
From Geotechnics to roller tolerance, I like it. It was new stuff, and it should end up with a reel crane, that should operate in a small fishing community on Greenland.
It was 8 m high and become a landmark for the community.
My sketches for the simple gear design and my gearbox and the final result.
My gearbox is lined up.
And finally ready for shipment by Royal Greenland Trade. They should assembly the crane on site with the help of a single fitter, and they managed to do so.
