Solomon’s wisdom, as to money, can be condensed into five statements:
1. Always work
2. Always avoid debt
3. Always save some
4. Always give some
5. Always, always remember it all belongs to Yahweh
1 – If you aren’t working, you are not producing. If you’re not producing – why are you using up oxygen? And should you believe this only applies to men you’d better read chapter 31. Like one young girl said when she first read it “Wow – that woman WORKS!” Working is not necessarily about making money.
2 – So bad is debt that Solomon equated it to being a slave. (chapter 22)
3 – If you have no reserve in your treasury you will quickly be in trouble, should anything go wrong. Worse yet, you will be unable to execute the following.
4 – What people miss is that giving is as much about developing your character as it is helping others. What do you want to be when you exit this world?
5 – Whatever you think of Solomon’s view of the universe, think beyond yourself. Work, debt, reserve, charity – it has much greater focus if your view goes beyond your own skin.
All this obviously connects to individuals. What about for your country?
