Populations
I conduct research in various monolingual, bilingual and multilingual groups, both children and adults, in Greece, Germany, and the US. I have recently extended my research to children with Specific Language Impairment/Developmental Language Disorder.
A crucial part of my research and research objectives focus on cross-linguistic comparisons between and within various groups of monolingual and bilingual/multilingual speakers: Vasiliki Rizou and I are comparing Greek-English adult heritage speakers from the US with Greek-German adult heritage speakers from Germany in the production and online comprehension of aspect. In collaboration with Fotini Karkaletsou, we contast first generation immigrants from Greece (born and raised in Greece who later moved to Germany) with second generation immigrants (born and raised in Germany and whose parents are Greek) and with second language learners of German living in Greece. I also compare younger groups with older groups of native speakers in Greece on their preferences on optionally-marked anticausatives. My research also focuses on children and adults with Greek as a heritage/minority language and German as the majority language.
These comparisons provide knowledge of how language develops and how it is processed as a cognitive system across the lifespan.
