Welcome!
I am an assistant professor in the Department of Economics of the Diego Portales University, in Santiago de Chile. I studied a PhD in Public Policy at the University of Chicago and my areas of specialization are health economics, econometric methods for program evaluation, and labor economics. My research interests are closely related to human contingency and its institutional and economic context, as I study to what degree formal and informal institutions reduce or exacerbate the uncertainty that individuals and families face throughout their life cycle.
In particular, I have worked on assessing the extent to which health systems provide financial protection in health and guarantee access to health care, and how informal household insurance systems inflict a disproportionate cost on women and their human capital, delving into the margin of female labor participation. Other interests include the economic and social assimilation of migrants and their intergenerational mobility as well as the transmission of risk from firms to workers and its consequences in terms of unequal wage trajectories.
Research for me represents an essential tool to discern the mechanisms that construct reality beyond perceptions or culturally or politically preconceived assumptions whereas scientific evidence is a fundamental input to identify and respond to the needs of society.
