During the past 9 years I have been working and supporting students in a K-12 Grade setting. I started in 2012, at Lincoln Fundamental Elementary School, K-6th Grade. I wanted to be involved in my children's education and support their learning. Therefore, I became a volunteer in the classroom, and a room parent. Additionally, assisted the school librarian in organizing books, and helped students to check in their books or check them out. Helped in the 100 Mile Club during school or after school hours, also provided support and organized PTA events. In 2016, I got my first job at the same elementary school that I was volunteering at and became a substitute for noon duty supervisors. The following year I got hired as a bilingual paraprofessional at Raney Intermediate Middle School. As a paraprofessional I have been honored to work with English Learners, Special Education and General Education students and their families. I learned to advocate for them, address their individual needs and promote their academic success among their different environments. This experience allowed me to find my calling in education. I started by enrolling in a Master's in Social Work program, while I was completing my fieldwork hours as a clinical therapist intern I specialized in individual and group therapy for students and provided support for their parents. After I graduated from the Master's program I decided to enroll into the School Counseling program and earn the Pupil Personnel Services Credential in School Counseling. During the program I had the honor to work with students from 6th - 12th grade and recently I was a school counselor at Benjamin Franklin Elementary school. My past experience has taught me about the different role and the responsibilities of a school counselor and the challenges that students endure every day. Therefore, as a school counselor my goal is to help students achieve their academic, and social/emotional development by empowering them with the skills and tools that they need to thrive and overcome their short and long-term challenges.
