About
Fliki AI Text-to-Speech is an advanced software that uses state-of-the-art artificial intelligence algorithms to convert written text into high-quality speech. With Fliki AI Text-to-Speech, users can generate realistic and natural-sounding speech in multiple languages and voices. The software has a wide range of applications, including in the entertainment industry, e-learning, and accessibility for individuals with visual impairments. With Fliki AI, users can save time and resources by automating the process of generating speech, which can be especially useful for businesses that require audio content for marketing or information dissemination.
Rationale for this analysis report
Fliki.AI is an appropriate product to examine for an Educational Venture Analyst recommendation because of its aforementioned applications, and in the case of this website's author, it is an exceptional tool for language teachers. Language teachers are faced with the unenviable task of finding and creating appropriate listening activities and assessments. These assessments include those that hold less weight such as an end of unit listening test, audio or video file, or a final exam, which holds a significant amount of weight.
Recently, when faced with the need to have three listening passages for an end of unit assessment (as this reflects the IBDP), connected to that unit, I needed to find or create my own resources. Unfortunately, the listening component component to the exam has only being part of the program since 2019, so there are not many past exams to use. In addition, these past exams are searchable by tech-savy students on sites like Reddit.
Often, textbooks and educational websites fall short for many reasons:
audio files may feature speech that is too fast for learners
content can be dated and disconnected to the modern learners (ex: a technology piece that mentions cassettes or CDs)
excerpts may be connected to the textbook too closely and will not be useful for teachers who are creating their own units (ex: vocabulary may not connect to learned material)
files may be too short or too lengthy
files may favour a particular accent or voice type and not demonstrate inclusion of various accents from around the world
files may not conform to specific programme requirements (ex: the IB requires specific durations and question types based on students' levels)
Creating authentic listening activities and assessments requires a lot of planning and preparation, as well as a deep understanding of the language and cultures being studied. The recent incorporation of AI text-to-speech has tremendously helped me and my colleagues with resource creation as we are no longer limited to using textbook files, old CDs or CD-ROMS, files left in our department Drive from previous teachers or YouTube audio and video files.
