Welcome to my website colleague!
My name is Ana Gonzalez. In 2020, I graduated with my Bachelor of Arts in History with Social Studies grades 7-12 teaching certification from the University of Houston - Clear Lake. That following summer, as the pandemic strengthened, I applied to work in the Houston Independent School District and got hired to work in Houston's historic East End as a 7th Grade Texas History teacher. For the next three years I worked with a high hispanic population of at risk students from low-socio economic backgrounds. Many students had intellectual disabilities or general social and emotional behavioral disorders. Additionally, students fell far below grade level in both reading and mathematics.
My experience as a Social Studies teacher for the past three years motivated me to apply to graduate school with the intent to gain additional skills in curriculum and instruction to better support both students and teachers. I am currently working on acquiring my Master of Science in Curriculum and Instruction with Reading Specialist Certification.
Most of my students were dyslexic or struggled with reading comprehension. As a reading specialist, I know I will be able to provide students targeted interventions and supports. Additionally, as a Teacher Specialist, I will be able to provide teachers with resources, research-based teaching, and technological practices to support all learners in the classroom.
In the future, I see myself working in secondary and post secondary educational environments.
