Hi! My name is Amy Vyskocil-Flint (she/her), and I'm a 21 year-old theatre kid. I'm currently based in York (term time) and London, and am in my third-year of the theatre course at the University of York. Outside of my degree, I spend my free time creating for the University of York's Drama Society, where I am one of the two Barn Managers.
Although based in London, I'm actually half-British, half-American and have spent my childhood living internationally (Taiwan, Russia and South Africa).
I'm interested in all aspects theatre, but the bulk of my experience comes from a directing, company stage managing (which my course/drama society call "producing"), and stage management background. I've also had the chance to choreograph fight sequences!
Since 2023, I have been a student a part of the three-year theatre course at the University of York. Across the program, students have the opportunity to explore a variety of avenues, such as playwriting, directing, design, dramaturgy, and acting. There are three main practical modules where students have the opportunity to work in a larger, more industry-standard environment across the department's theatre spaces. These modules are as follows:Â
The second year module, Political Theatre Performance Project
The third year module, Main Stage Production Project
The third year module, Independent Group Performance Project (or alternatively the Independent Playwriting Project)
Alongside this, students must complete other core and option modules in other years, and complete an "extended essay." For more information on the work I did, click below...
From the age of 16-18 years old, I spent my final two years of schooling completing the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. Across the two-year program, students are expected to study seven subjects (three at a higher level, three at a standard level, and a class called "Theory of Knowledge"), complete 16-months of CAS (creativity, activity and service), and write a 4,000 research essay on the subject of their choosing. It was natural that one of the subjects I selected to study was Theatre. Beyond just studying the subject, I also focused the extra requirements of my degree dedicated to Theatre. Little did I know that a lot of the work I did for the IBDP would influence my interest and explorations in my current theatrical approaches. For more information on the work I did, click below...
