Clive Booker is a London-based art therapist and collector about to celebrate his fortieth birthday. His orderly life is changed forever when he saves Amber, a foul-mouthed young punk, from a mugging, and a friendship soon grows.
She seeks refuge from an unhappy relationship and financial instability. He finds himself torn between continuing his life as a bachelor or settling down to appease his condescending mother, Rose.
As Clive begins to spiral, he questions if this is a result of his own life choices or his recently aquired, allegedly cursed painting, 'Thief with Apple.'
Thief with Apple appeared on the summer line-up as the week 11 weekend show, with performances from May 8-10th, 2026.
As fight coordinator, I worked alongside both cast and exec to bring to life two violent sequences. One was a simple slap, which we worked on to perfect realism through reaction and sound (via the knap created) to add to the already bitter argument between mother and son. Another sequence worked on was the more gruesome fight at the end of the play. With limited rehearsal time, I was able to create a gruesome sequence that included punches, throws, stamping on legs, kicking and knife slashes.
As always, I find it important to establish actor comfortability, and work through choreography at a slow pace until we establish it fully. Working with actors with a mix of fight experience allowed for some areas to be choreographed quicker than others, and some areas taking more time, as to teach proper fight etiquette. The variety in experience was beneficial for the quick turnaround. I was present throughout our production day to check-in with actors and run a fight call before the show began. I had such an incredible time working with this group of people! The cast were amazing to work with, and I really had fun exploring and choreographing the fight with them.
