Surprisingly, she develops a very close relationship with Lizzie, and slowly lets herself become her own person, distancing herself from the abusive environment she was brought up in.

Being the middle child is not an easy task and is probably one of the reasons why Charlie has anger management issues. He is always picking a fight, for whatever reason, and just doesn’t know how to stop. Charlie motto is “beat first, ask questions never”. A good reason for Alfie closing him to take care of the man around the distillery and the protection business around Camden. He thought about staying in the army after the war, but ended up deciding to come back home because he’s too attached to his family.

As the second youngest, Charlie is a little bit spoiled. He gets away with a lot stuff that he shouldn’t. A very well mannered and charming guy, that actually made his way to college, but ended up being expelled for fighting. Daniel is probably the most well tempered of all of his siblings, but when he looses control it does get bloody. And he likes it. Deciding to stay around his family, Daniel ended up taking care of the jewelry business, something he takes pride in.

Daphne is a former nurse that served during the war and has a close relationship with Alfie, working as his right-hand woman. She has a twin brother that died during the war. Tommy takes a liking to her when he starts working with Alfie and drama ensues with Alfie’s betrayal and Grace’s return. Her best friend, Harriet, is also a former nurse that, nowadays, owns a very known brothel in London. William, a doctor who served with both of them during the war is someone Daphne carries really close to heart, even when people expect their relationship to be awkward because they’re former lovers. She is a high-class lady that willingly chose to detach herself from her family for thinking differently.

A liar and a thief. Eve navigates through life on her own. She has no roots and her loyalty is only to herself. Growing up without a family, being deceived and betrayed more than once, she learned never to trust in people. Eve leads her life and her or kin a very similar way: wrapped in secrets. The oldest of the Solomons’ siblings never wanted tomatoes part in the family business. This fact cause many disagreements between the boys, especially with Alfie, until Henry decided to leave and start a life on his own. Sometimes he resents his family for not supporting him on his decisions, but he also blames himself for not having tried harder to stay with them and help with whatever he could. Even stranger from his family, Henry tried to keep an eye on them and check if everything is alright. He does take part in family meetings and holidays, in part because of his mother and sister, in part because he misses the chaos that the five of them create when together. Henry became a doctor an served during the war as one.

Growing up in Watery Lane, the only daughter of a Scottish mother and British father, she was always very close to the Shelby’s. Kath helped Polly keep things up and running during the war, when she lost both her parents. Tommy and her always treated each other as best-friends, having crossed that line a few times, becoming lovers of some sorts after he came back from the war. A complicated relationship that had many ups and down because the two of them are too strong headed to admit their feeling for fear to what it would mean to their friendship in case it didn’t worked out. The thing they never realized is that the relationship had been working just alright for a long time.

Bond to Tommy since before the war, Laura had learned to navigate through changes. She was the oldest child, the one that took care of the house and her siblings so her parents could work. That worked at home, as a seamstress to help with the bills. That is until she got pregnant and was almost thrown out of her family home for giving herself up to a gypsy. Then learning how to deal with leaving with the Shelby’s, with Tommy changing when his father went away and his mother killed herself. They had to go through the lost of their child and then the war. Life has made them both colder, harder, but even then, Laura never thought that she would have to deal with her husband’s unfaithfulness. Not when she was expecting their child.
